Epsom salt also known as magnesium sulfate because it is made up of magnesium, sulfur, and oxygen. Because it is often used by dissolving the salt in baths, it is also known as bath salt.
It is believed that the name comes from the town where it was first discovered, Epsom in Surrey, England.
It has an appearance similar to table salt but is a completely different compound and also tastes distinctly different. Epsom Salt is quite bitter and unpalatable. There are people who will consume it by dissolving the salt in water and drinking it, but due to its taste, you probably shouldn’t add it to food.
Uses include treatment of conditions such as constipation, insomnia and fibromyalgia to name a few.
Many reported benefits of Epsom Salt is probably due to its magnesium content. Magnesium is a mineral that many people are deficient in.
